The Beijing Alumni Association of SOG, SYSU Holds its Election Meeting and Alumni Forum on Public Governance
On the afternoon of November 4, 2023, the Beijing Alumni Association of the School of Government (SOG) of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) held its election meeting and Alumni Forum on Public Governance in Beijing. More than fifty alumni, including Tan Ankui, Dean of the SOG at SYSU, Luo Jing, Party Secretary of the SOG, Tan Yingyao, Deputy Party Secretary of the SOG, Professor Chen Tianxiang of the SOG, Professor Xia Ying of the SOG, and Liu Peng, President of the Beijing Alumni Association of the SOG, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by President Liu Peng.

Secretary Luo Jing expressed her heartfelt thanks to all the representatives attending the meeting and the vast number of alumni who have long been attached to the alma mater. Secretary Luo Jing introduced to the alumni the cultural construction of the school in recent years and the preparation process and work plan for the centennial anniversary of the university. She emphasized that alumni are the precious wealth of the university and hoped to meet them during the centennial celebration to collectively witness the vigorous development of the university and the school.

Deputy Secretary Tan Yingyao introduced the alumni work of the school. She mentioned that the Beijing Alumni Association of the SOG is an integral part of the school's alumni association and a constant driving force for the school's development. She expressed the hope that alumni would put forward more valuable suggestions on the development of the school and continue to maintain close ties with the school.

President Liu Peng of the Beijing Alumni Association reported on the previous term's alumni work and the preparations for the current election meeting. He expressed gratitude to alumnus Zhang Borong for his substantial support given to this meeting.

The meeting voted to pass the list of new board members of the Beijing Alumni Association of the SOG of SYSU and elected the president, vice president, secretary-general, and deputy secretary-general.

The new Secretary-General of the Beijing Alumni Association of the SOG of SYSU, Li Le, presented the alumni association's work plan. She expressed the hope that by organizing a series of activities, the association could strengthen ties between alumni and between alumni and the school as well as the university, contributing to a mutually successful future.

Following this, the Alumni Forum on Public Governance commenced. Professor Xia Ying chaired the forum, with faculty representatives and alumni representatives making keynote speeches.

Professor Chen Tianxiang, drawing from his personal experience of using ride-hailing services, made a comparative analysis of the governance of citizen mobility in Guangzhou and Beijing. He discussed with alumni how to center urban transportation planning around people. Professor Chen Nabuo analyzed the phenomenon of "social anxiety" in depth and put forward targeted suggestions for alleviating "social anxiety." Alumni Dai Yongji, based on his own work experience, used rural revitalization and urbanization development as examples to express the hope for the organic integration of theory and practice, aiming to generate more localized public administration theories with Chinese characteristics.

Seven Alumni representatives, including Zhang Borong, Yang Hui, Liu Zhe, Ma Rong, Fu Congcong, Cui Wenhui, and Zhang Quke, delivered speeches respectively, appreciating the school and teachers for their cultivation. They said that they would continue to pay attention to and support the development of the Beijing Alumni Association and the alma mater. In addition, they are committed to upholding the government service spirit as they persistently delve into their respective professional fields.

Professor Tan Ankui, Dean of the SOG, delivered the concluding speech. The dean expressed his heartfelt thanks for the support from all alumni and expressed high expectations for the work of the new Board of Directors of the Beijing Alumni Association. Focusing on the theme of "to change or not to change," Dean Tan Ankui introduced the progress the school has made in internal governance, disciplinary construction, international development, social services, and organizational culture. He also analyzed the opportunities and challenges faced by the school, stating that alumni are the most reliable and firm force for the school's development. He hoped that the Beijing Alumni Association and the school could widely unite their strength, form a synergy of development, and promote the common growth and progress of alumni and the alma mater.
